Assalamualaikum and a very good day, ladies and gentlemen.
Doing charity; as in managing a welfare centre is a huge responsibility. One must have a high dedication, patience and love in order to be able to succeed in managing a welfare centre. It is a need for us to be very committed in our work which are handling the food, safety, and education as well as dealing with variety of responsible parties such as Jabatan Kebajikan Masyarakat, Majlis Bandaraya Ipoh dan Polis Diraja Malaysia; these are all to give the children, a place called home. When I chose on leading this path 30 years ago, I knew that I have to be strong in order to face the challenges that will arise. One of the main challenges is to guarantee that the children live a healthy and happy life in our guardianship.
It is particularly difficult for the children here, to express things that are on their mind. For example, it is easy for us to see any physical pain like wounds and cut and nurse it but how can we tell if the children have fever if they do not tell us? It is our responsibility to figure out those situations and take actions on it. Thus, our volunteers are taught to read the children’s body language in order to understand their feelings. I can say that the children here are given a lot of care and attention from our management team and volunteers.
The children here are being look after constantly as most of them are very active and can act unexpectedly. Plus, some of the objects can be very harmful to them even though it doesn’t seem dangerous to us. We also practice healthy eating habits for the children here in PHKKS. We make sure that each child has their breakfast, lunch and dinner every day in order to make sure that they gain enough nutrition for their daily activity. Biscuits, breads and drinks are always prepared for them.
Aside from that, spastic children with good mental health learn and practice the way of communicating with the volunteers. It is even encouraging for them to help in looking out for the other handicapped children. This is to ensure every child’s safety. They are also given the chance to learn variety of skills such as making bread, making crafts and others.
However, this precious effort will be nowhere if it’s not with the help and support from other party. It goes without saying that I am very thankful for every individual that is so generous and kind for the involvement in succeeding our mission; that is to support the spastic children and their family. Without your support, we would not be able to help them as much as how we are doing right now. The financial contribution that we have received is utilized in the forms of food cost, education cost, utility bills, medical needs and such. While donation of goods are put to use in helping to improve the quality of life for these children as well as bringing them more happiness. I am also thankful that the effort to help these children receives positive attitude from everyone. Alhamdulillah.
